Mononit (Isosorbid Mononitrate)
Mononit contains active substance Isosorbid Mononitrate, it belongs to nitrates class of medicines. It dilates vessels, mostly venous vessels, and this way reduces venous return to the heart. It reduces number of angina attacks, so patients avoid taking extra nitroglycerin. In patients with heart failure it contributes into unloading of myocardium by reducing preload.
The inside without chewing, swallow he tablet whole with small amount of water. The dose is administered individually. Initial dose is 10-20 mg taken two times a day or 40-50 mg taken once daily in the morning after breakfast. If necessary, starting from 3-5-day of treatment the dose can be increased up to 20-40 mg taken two times a day, or 80-100 mg taken once a day. If you divide daily dose in two, second intake should be done 7 hours later than first dose.
Inform your doctor before to take Mononit if you have heart failure, low blood pressure, or kidney disease. If you only started to take Mononit you can experience headache which become less severe when you continue treatment. Inform you doctor about it, pain killers can be prescribed to you. Stop breastfeeding if you take treatment with this medicine. Avoid driving a vehicle, operating machinery because this medicine can affect you ability to concentrate. Do not stop taking this medicine abruptly. This should be done gradually.
Do not take this medicine if you are hypersensitivity to it or nitroglycerin. Never take it with sildenafil (Viagra, Revatio). Do not take it if you already have signs of heart attack. This medicine cannot be administered to patients with acute myocardial infarction, unstable angina, acute coronary syndrome, children's age (safety and efficacy in children has not been studied).
Possible side effects
Mononit can produce these adverse reactions in some patients: hypotension, dizziness, nausea, abdominal distension, abdominal pain, vomiting.
Never take it with Sildenafil (Viagra), this can cause heart attack and myocardial infraction. Inform you doctor if you take propanolol, phenylalkylamine, calcium antagonists, narcotic analgesics, antipsychotics, tricyclic antidepressants, alcohol. Mononit weakens effects of NSAIDs.
Never take more than prescribed dose, even if you missed the one. Try to take it as soon as possible. Or, if it's too late, just skip it and take your usually dose next day in the same regularly time.
Symptoms of overdose include: orthostatic hypotension, throbbing headache, severe sweating, feeling of cold, cold skin, bradycardia, shortness of breath, bloody diarrhea, vomiting, dizziness, confusion , syncope, coma, fever, paralysis, visual disturbances. If you experience ay symptom of overdose, seek for immediate medical help.
Store at room temperature between 68-77 F (20-25 C), in a dark and dry place. Save it from children and pets. Watch the expiration date!
